Title : Detailed Water with Coarse Grids
Abstract: I will present an overview of the upcoming SIGGRAPH 2014 paper "Detailed Water with Coarse Grids" by Edwards and Bridson. In brief, the premise is to capture detailed dynamics of splashing liquids using standard uniform Cartesian grids by combining a mesh-based surface tracking technique with a finite element method (p-adaptive discontinuous Galerkin FEM) that allows one to dynamically adapt the polynomial degree of the solution in regions of interest. In this way, the flow can be much more highly resolved near liquid surfaces, without resorting to more complex geometrically adaptive data structures, such as octrees, tetrahedral meshes etc. |
