Title : Defining Hatching In Art
Abstract:
We define hatching-a drawing technique-as rigorously as possible. A pure mathematical formulation or even a binary this-orthatdefinition is unreachable, but useful insights come from driving as close as we can. First, we explain hatching’s purposes.Next comes our definition of hatching in two parts: a positive definition useful for generating hatching from scratch and anegative definition that is better suited for analyzing existing marks and classifying them as hatching or otherwise. After thisbipartite definition, we briefly treat considerations for expressive research.
