Title : Visual styles in cyberpunk: A comparison of Blade Runner & Akira
Abstract:
Tired of research talks?I would like to talk a little bit about a subgenre of science fiction, called cyberpunk.Blade Runner was the first cyberpunk film, it invented the visual style of high tech and low life.Six years after, Akira, a cyberpunk anime, was released in Japan. Both films are significant in the history of filmmaking.Blade Runner is known as a neo-noir film and the extensive use of neon lights.Akira was entirely hand drawn and it is still used as a reference for modern animation films.Although they have distinctive looks, I will discuss several parallels between the two and how both films define cyberpunk visions of dystopian future.
