Title : The Sprague-Grundy Theorem
Abstract:
Every Computer Scientist knows how to decide who wins a game, if given the complete tree of game states. I will present the Sprague-Grundy Theorem as an extension of this basic concept. It will allow us to solve all those annoying games involving heaps of beans, or rows of pebbles, or whatever. By the end of this talk, you will able to trivialize question B5 on the 1995 Putnam Math Competition.
