TPTITLE:How innovation backrupts small firms
TPABSTRACT:During the last three decades, the effect of innovation on market structure, especially innovation in computation, has been very different than was predicted by economics departments and business schools. Today I am going to talk about more modern ideas about what happens when new technology interacts with trying to make a profit. The, possibly unexpected, conclusion is that the limits to innovation do not lie within science or technology, but within the ability of institutions to restructure themselves in the presence of the unknown. It is therefore quite likely that a much slower rate of innovation will<nl>provide our gradchildren with better science and technology.
