Title : Visual Explanations
Abstract:
I will be presenting Decarlo's paper "Visual Explanations" published in NPAR 2010.

Due to overwhelming information surrounding the functioning of our human perceptual system, new ideas are being developed to address immediate improvements to automatic depiction in graphics. Decarlo proposes 'Visual explanations', representations that account for patterns in two dimensions as evidence of a visual world. This representation contains semantics about structure found in a scene that can be used to improve communicating content to viewers. Efforts towards representations are meant to improve the link between both computer graphics and perceptual sciences.
