Title : Pitch: Sensation and Perception
Abstract: This talk is a 20-minute introduction to pitch perception. What is pitch? How do humans perceive and understand pitch? 1) I will decompose sounds, from time domain to frequency domain. 2) I will discuss inner ear^Òs physiological characteristics, e.g. the cochlea. 3) I will present the most accepted pitch perception theory. 4) I will discuss the weakness of this theory. 5) I will present interesting analogies between our auditory and the visual system. |
