Title: Venti: a
system for archival storage
Abstract: In this talk I will present a paper about a system, named
Venti,
by Sean Quinlan and Sean Dorward of Bell Labs. Venti is a block level
network storage server in which a hash of the stored data is used to
uniquely
identify the data in the server. This leads to a write one policy and
the
elimination of duplicate blocks. The result is that Venti can be used
as a
building block for creating archival storage clients such as snapshot
filesystems.
