Title: Simulating Decorative Mosaics

Abstract:

Artists have painstakingly created beautiful mosaics for centuries. The work on "Simulating Decorative Mosaics" examines an algorithm that is a step towards producing comparable results using computer graphics. My talk will focus on the work of Hausner (2001) in this area. The method introduced employs manhattan metric based centroidal voronoi diagrams affected by mosaic edge defining direction fields, both rapidly computed by leveraging CG hardware. Results include some pretty pictures.
