- Title:
- Animating Linkages
- Abstract:
-
I will describe a deceivingly simple geometry problem that has been open for
around ten years, and a recent solution (without proof). Then I will discuss
the current problem--how to best show the solution graphically via
animation--and show my attempts so far. Briefly, the problem is the following:
given a polygon in the plane, whose edges are rigid bars and whose vertices are
hinges, continuously fold the polygon to make it convex, while not crossing
any of the edges.
