Paint Effects Technology Overview

Abstract:

I will take a look at the interface and technology behind Alias|Wavefront's new Paint Effects toolset which now ships with Maya. The package allows for 2D and 3D painting using L-Systems to provide growth structures. It allows for imagery that would be difficult to create using standard methods currently at the disposal of artists. The interface tries hard to stay true to the painting metaphor, but will it be able to provide the robustness artists will need to acheive the effect they desire?
