Title:
-
The Digital Michelangelo Project
-
Abstract:
-
During the 1998-99 academic year, Dr. Marc Levoy of Stanford
University took a team of researchers to Italy. Their purpose was to
make 3D laser scans of a collection of Michelangelo's works. I will
briefly present the method they used, describe difficulties they
encountered, and mention some possible uses for their models.
6. General Discussion Items

SCIENTIFIC COMPUTATION SEMINAR
- Wednesday, October 6, 1999
Professor R.B. Simpson, Dept. Computer Science,
University of Waterloo, will speak on ``Isolating
Geometry in 2-D Mesh Programming''.
TIME: 10:30-11:30 a.m.
ROOM: DC 1331
ABSTRACT
We discuss enhancing the generality of 2-D unstructured
mesh programming by isolating some geometric
dependencies so that they can be easily changed. The
specific task discussed is quality mesh generation for
a 2-D manifold by local refinement with Delaunay
insertion. The geometric dependencies that we wish to
isolate are its embedded global coordinate system,
including its dimension (planar or surface meshing),
and its metric, (curvilinear coordinate systems,
anisotropic meshing). We discuss object oriented
techniques and a coordinate system local to the mesh
triangles to enhance isolating these geometric features.
