- Title:
- Frames of Reference- A Psycholinguistic Perspective
- Abstract:
- A vast number of academic disciplines seek to understand spatially based
frames of reference at different levels; in graphics we learn how to
translate between window, viewport, and object coordinate systems; in
linguistics,
researchers seek to understand how space is cognitively encoded from
language and use cross-linguistic accounts of frames of reference for
theoretical support; the neurobiologist studies the transmodal aspect of
frames of reference with respect to the various sensory systems. This talk
will concentrate on issues concerning frames of reference pertinent to the
psycholinguist, illustrating how they play a role in increasing our
understanding of spatial cognition.
