Monte Carlo Methods in Computer Graphics by Prof. Michael McCool Statistics isn't just for actuaries--it can also be used to make pretty pictures. Random (Monte Carlo) sampling is a technique for estimating high-dimensional integrals, such as those that are encountered in graphics. I will talk about the graphics applications and the limitations and advantages of random sampling. I will also survey some of the techniques for improving convergence: importance sampling, stratification, combination of estimators, and Halton sequences.
