Title:
Computer Wars: Interesting Trends in Industry
Abstract:
For most academic disciplines, industry and academia are seen as
two very distinct entities with disparate goals and purposes. Computer
science, on the other hand, is extremely integrated with industry.
Research in industry is not significantly different than
much of the research produced in universities. While we may disdain
accepting the way in which we are impacted by what goes on in the other
world, we tolerate it. Recently, two separate lawsuits against the
ever-growing Microsoft(TM) have spurred considerable interest.
I will discuss the nature of the lawsuits and their implications towards
us and the computer user community at large.
