Title: A PostScript Inspired Abstraction for Path Generation
Abstract:
Current computer controlled machining practice in industry is based on a semantically primitive language for path description. In the case where a geometric model is used as a basis for path construction, virtually every computational detail must be incorporated into the path as the language is not capable of transmitting higher level concepts. In my talk, I will outline an alternative paradigm patterned after the information flow used in image creation with the PostScript language. I will also touch on what is required in terms of user interface, programming language, and machine tool controller hardware.
