How (not) to make a video =========================In an attempt to leave behind some sort of legacy for anyone foolish enough to contemplate making a video in the future, I will present a summary of "do's and don'ts" of video-making. Information and opinions come from the experiences (and mistakes) of this year's animation team. I hope to pass on some of what we have learned so that the next generation may suffer less anguish than we did!

Abstract:
I shall present the architecture of a distributed and collabora- tive multimedia environment called SHASTRA for cooperative scien- tific problem solving. At its core SHASTRA has a powerful colla- boration substrate -- to support multi-user applications, and a distribution substrate -- which emphasizes distributed problem solving. At the application level, SHASTRA provides scientific task sharing and multimedia communication facilities together with graphic interfaces based on X-11 windows that let users cooperate in a "as if in the same room" environment. A synergis- tic union of these elements yields a sophisticated problem solv- ing environment. In this talk I shall describe how the SHASTRA toolkits are used in the custom design and prototyping of artificial hip implants and in the distributed spline reconstruction and telecollabora- tive visualization of extremely large three dimensional scalar fields.
