Bayer filters require the use of demosicing, which interpolates missing colour information and often causes artifacting. This paper by Google Research presents a method which uses multiple frames to alleviate limitations associated with smartphone cameras. A continuous image field can be reconstructed with the extra data provided by the multiple frames, which can be sampled to provide a desired higher resolution image.
