TPTITLE:Defining Hatching In Art
TPABSTRACT:We define hatching-a drawing technique-as rigorously as possible. A pure mathematical formulation or even a binary this-orthatdefinition is unreachable, but useful insights come from driving as close as we can. First, we explain hatching’s purposes.Next comes our definition of hatching in two parts: a positive definition useful for generating hatching from scratch and anegative definition that is better suited for analyzing existing marks and classifying them as hatching or otherwise. After thisbipartite definition, we briefly treat considerations for expressive research.

LEONE:Construction has started in the lab.  There will be some money for adding sound proofing and lab renovations later in the year.  The plan to move the door on the vision lab has been put aside for now; let the directors know if the vision people coming and going is a problem.
