This technique preserves rotational motion during the particle-grid-particle transfers that is typically lost in competing methods. Previous attempts to preserve rotations also introduce noise that impact the quality of the simulation. The APIC method is able to preserve rotational and shear modes while still filtering out particle-level noise.
